In the first case of its kind in Mumbai, 90 parcels containing jewellery were confiscated by the Goods and Services Tax (GST) department for flouting of tax norms. Mumbai GST Commissioner, KN Raghavan, confirmed that the parcels, which came in from Gujarat, were seized as they may have been sourced and ferried flouting GST norms. Around 85 carriers have been detained in connection with the incident. This is the first such raid carried out by the department ever since the implementation of the GST by the government. Under the GST Act, all movement of goods within states has to be accompanied by an e-waybill. This has to be generated from a GST portal. This document allows the movement of goods from one place to another and specifies the quantity and the overall value of the goods. "The...
“Not only land but we have been to the depths of heaving seas, Upon our steed of zeal, we rode unto their darkest boundaries” – Allama Iqbal We, humans, have literally explored almost every corner of the earth. We have conquered the toughest of terrains and have been to the base of deepest of oceans, but we have never been to the earth’s core. What all lies below the earth’s crust is wrapped up in mystery, and yet we know quite a lot about our planet’s core. Isn’t this strange? Here’s what you need to know about earth’s structure (A revision of your grade 6 Geography class). The Earth, from the center moving towards the surface, is made up of an inner core, outer core, lower mantle, upper mantle, and the crust. Earth’s innermost section is called its inner core,
All those accountholders of the erstwhile banks which were merged with State Bank of India (SBI) have to get cheque books bearing the new IFSC code by December 31, 2017. One may visit the bank branch or even use the ATM or SBI's mobile app to get a new cheque book. SBI officials had earlier informed that transactions based on old codes will still go through and will not be held up as they have been mapped with the new codes internally by the bank. However, if you have provi
The CBI Court’s detailed examination of the evidence and testimony of witnesses has led it to the unequivocal conclusion that former telecom minister A Raja followed established policy and procedure while allocating additional 2G licences in 2008. Special Judge O P Saini’s finding is that a set of irresponsible telecom ministry officials, led by a bumbling secretary, D S Mathur, led to the confusion that led to the allegation of a scam. This creates a big hole in the political narrative that discredited the previous UPA government. Not just former telecom minister A Raja, the Congress, too, will claim vindication of their protestations of innocence. However, the judgement fails to explain why companies associated with Swan Telecom, one of the companies that got licences, transferred .`2

2 years ago, we found a Christmas Light Scavenger Hunt online and printed it out for our annual drive around town. It was SO much fun. However, some of the items were just impossible for us to find. People around here don’t really put Santa on their roofs and you don’t often find streets where only one house is undecorated. This year, I made the lofty goal that we were going to find EVERYTHING on our Christmas Light Scavenger Hunt list! Except…I cheated 😉 I made our own list! Everything on this list is manageable and I know (from experience) that we’ll find multiple instances of each and every item on this list in the surrounding neighborhoods. The prize is that once we find everything on the list, we get to come home and have a special Christmas treat! I decided to share
